Sample Letter to Congress
The Current Tax Code
[Date]
The Honorable [First and Last Name of Congressman or Senator]
United States [House of Representatives or Senate]
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear [Congressman or Senator Last Name]:
The current tax code has been grossly manipulated to reward elite
interests and compliance has become increasingly difficult and
expensive. The federal income tax is extremely unfair to wage earning
Americans and the average citizen of your district. Your leadership is
imperative and is respectively requested on this important issue.
The FairTax is fair to all Americans, and simple to understand. The
FairTax bill represents an idea whose time has come. National polls
show that more than two-thirds of Americans want fundamental tax
reform, and I am one of those Americans. I live, work, and vote in your
district. I am personally requesting your support for the FairTax.
I ask you to consider the FairTax seriously for the following reasons:
[Insert one or two of your favorite reasons to support the FairTax. For
example: The FairTax offers long-needed tax relief to all Americans,
allows us to keep 100% of our paycheck, allows families to save more
for homeownership, education, and retirement, protects and ensures
funding of Social Security and Medicare, empowers the low-income
earners, puts choice and control back in the hands of every American,
stimulates economic growth, removes hidden taxes, virtually eliminates
the Internal Revenue Service and stimulates job creation.]
I urge you to become fully informed about the FairTax bill through the
Americans for Fair Taxation's website at www.fairtax.org or
www.pafairtax.org.
Please consider sponsoring this important and much-needed legislation.
A personal reply with your comments on the FairTax bill, rather than a
standard form letter, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your
time. I am looking forward to your response.
With sincere appreciation,
